Job Description

The Department of Family Medicine at Valleywise Health (formerly Maricopa Integrated Health System) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chair. The position would include employment through District Medical Group Inc. (DMG), a 450+ physician not-for-profit faculty practice group which exclusively contracts to provide clinical, administrative and teaching services to Valleywise Health (VWH). As a clinical partner with the Creighton University School of Medicine Phoenix Regional Campus, this individual may have the opportunity to serve as the regional academic Department Chair.

VWH has an ambulatory care system of 10 community health centers (CHC) which are inclusive of family medicine services. The VWH system also includes a strong internal referral network inclusive of most specialty/sub-specialty areas. The Chair works very closely with senior management of the VWH Ambulatory Care system from an operational standpoint. These CHC’s are geographically dispersed throughout metropolitan Phoenix. VWH CHC’s are in areas chosen to provide care to the underserved population of Maricopa County and are classified as FQHC’s. The VWH system primarily serves a safety-net population and offers a full scope clinical practice, teaching opportunities and community involvement.

VWH hosts twelve graduate medical education programs including a Family Medicine Residency program. The residency is an integrated program with Dignity Health with resident rotations on both campuses. VWH, DMG and Dignity are all members of the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance ( whose mission is to develop the largest teaching program in Arizona. VWH and DMG also maintain a strong affiliation with the University of Arizona College of Medicine– Phoenix.

The Chairperson will be responsible for departmental administration, clinical activities, and continued development of the residency program. The candidate should have a strong track record of professional collaboration, successful administrative/leadership experience, and a vision for growth of the department.
