The Child Life Assistant is responsible for maintaining and assisting in the design of a therapeutic, developmental and educational environment through play activities for the patient population in an outpatient clinical setting.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides emotional support to children and families during out-patient visits.
  • Plans, introduces, and implements therapeutic play opportunities to support patient socio-emotional needs reducing stress and anxiety.
  • Advocates for the special needs of children and their families and promote the philosophy of patient and family-centered care.
  • Coordinates volunteer activities and duties.
  • Organizes and manages special events and special guests.
  • Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in accordance with Federal guidelines.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adjust language and demeanor to the developmental and emotional state of the child.
  • Enjoys working with children and parents.
  • Computer skill proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Bilingual Spanish/English, preferred.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or federal, state and local standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Education or Equivalency

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Life Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or other related field.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience working with children in a school or health care setting.

Employee Health Compliance:

As a condition of employment, DMG requires its employees to comply with Employee Health standards. All employees must provide proof of Tuberculosis clearance as well as Influenza, or approved declinations. Specific roles, depending on location/job responsibilities will require proof of immunization or antibodies for Hepatitis B, MMR, TDAP, and Varicella.
